Where did the REVOMAZE Puzzles come from? During childhood, Chris Pitt enjoyed puzzles, including a wooden maze game that required dexterity to control a ball around a maze without falling into a trap. This was a challenge that, when falling into a trap, you must start again.  â€‹â€‹â€‹

While making screwdriver handles during his engineering apprenticeship, he made a mistake when doing the slots around the handle circumference. He stopped and turned the rotation while the cutter was still running, forming a path on the outside of the core.

Years later having a small CNC machine, he designed a maze that would fit around the surface of a bar.  Instead of a ball bearing, he made a pin that was in a sleeve that had to be guided around the maze.

The requirements were:

  1. Small enough to fit into the hand

  2. Require dexterity to guide the pin

  3. Have traps like the wooden puzzle above that return you to the beginning

  4. Had minimum parts that were easily assembled and put the puzzle to the start

  5. Was progressive and had great feedback

It was while thinking about the assembly, that Chris came up with the idea to have a spring behind the pin pushing it into the maze floor.  Then have a deeper channel with a ramp that stops the pin returning.  Having a deeper channel in the beginning, would allow the maze to reset quickly to the start position.

It was soon discovered having more of these deeper channels near the maze formed the same type of trap in the wooden puzzle sending you back to the beginning.  Finally, having the maze only on one side of the centre line, concealed the maze in the sleeve while solving, making it much more challenging.

The first REVOMAZE 1 was made on Boxing Day 2008 using a maze designed on Christmas Day and without photographs, the puzzle was assembled and clicked into the central reset perfectly.  Not knowing if the maze would work, but having the drawing, the 1st REVOMAZE still took over 2 hours to open, but once opened was quickly reassembled and opened in a minute showing the design had Exceeded Expectations!

And so, the REVOMAZE journey began and after 15 years with around 50,000 puzzles made forming large collections around the world, the new REVOMAZE Lite was made to achieve these new requirements:

  1. Be lighter in the hands for extended sessions

  2. Be smaller in the hands that also fits better in the pocket

  3. Be smooth and still retain the enjoyment of the Classic Revomaze

  4. To have an introductory range that younger and senior puzzlers can enjoy

  5. To have the choice between the lighter cost-effective aluminium version as well as the smoother heavier deluxe brass version

  6. Have the complete range of levels from introduction to the extreme advance

Now we have the new REVOMAZE Lite range with over 23 new levels …
