Since the first REVOMAZE was created in 2008, our mechanical puzzles have challenged puzzlers around the world with intricate hidden mazes, precision engineering and a distinctive solving experience.

Today, REVOMAZE Lite continues that journey, offering the familiar hidden-maze challenge in a smaller, lighter format.

But how does it compare with the original REVOMAZE Classics, and what makes each design different?

Where It All Began

The story of REVOMAZE began on Christmas Day in 2008, when Chris Pitt set out to design a mechanical puzzle using brass and aluminium.

His idea was to create a maze that couldn't be seen and had to be solved entirely through touch.

The first prototype was produced on Boxing Day, combining a brass maze core with an aluminium outer sleeve. What initially seemed like a straightforward challenge took Chris almost three hours to solve.

That experience helped establish the concept behind REVOMAZE: learning an unseen path through careful movement, patience and memory, with the satisfaction of finally reaching the end.

The first REVOMAZE puzzles became available in February 2009, beginning a journey that would introduce the puzzle to enthusiasts and collectors around the world.

REVOMAZE Classic vs Lite: A Closer Comparison

The original REVOMAZE Classics became known for their substantial weight, solid metal construction and intricate internal maze designs.

REVOMAZE Lite builds on the same concept, with a more compact design that's lighter and easier to handle while preserving the familiar challenge.

Here's how the original designs compare:

Although the Classic range has now been retired, it remains an important part of REVOMAZE history and continues to be enjoyed by collectors.

Smaller Design, Same REVOMAZE Challenge

One of the most interesting developments with REVOMAZE Lite is its internal maze design.

Despite its smaller diameter, the Lite was originally developed with a finer maze grid than the Classic.

The original REVOMAZE used a grid of 50 × 26 positions, providing 1,300 possible positions for the maze design. REVOMAZE Lite introduced a grid of 60 × 34 positions, providing 2,040 possible positions.

This allows for more detailed maze layouts within a smaller space.

The engineering was also reconsidered, with developments to the internal construction, pin mechanism and movement between the components to suit the more compact design.

However, a larger maze grid doesn't automatically mean a more difficult puzzle. The challenge depends on the individual maze design, its pathways and the precision required to navigate them.

Aluminium or Brass: Choosing Your REVOMAZE Lite

REVOMAZE Lite is available with aluminium and brass maze cores, giving puzzlers a choice in how their puzzle feels in the hand.

Aluminium-core Lites offer a lighter, more comfortable experience, making them particularly appealing for longer solving sessions or for those who prefer a more compact puzzle.

For those who enjoy a more substantial feel, brass-core Lites offer a premium alternative.

The additional weight gives the puzzle a satisfying, solid feel in the hand, helping to bridge the weight gap for those who prefer the heavier experience of the original Classics.

Brass is particularly appealing to long-standing REVOMAZE collectors who appreciate the weight of the original puzzles but would also like to explore the newer Lite designs.

Both options retain the same fundamental REVOMAZE concept, with the choice of material offering a different physical experience.

Which REVOMAZE Is Right for You?

For collectors who own the original Classics, REVOMAZE Lite offers an opportunity to experience new maze designs in a different format.

For those discovering REVOMAZE for the first time, Lite provides an introduction to the hidden-maze concept in a smaller, more manageable size.

If you prefer a lightweight puzzle, an aluminium-core Lite may be the ideal choice. If you enjoy the heavier feel of the original Classics, a brass-core Lite offers a more substantial alternative.

Importantly, Lite doesn't mean the puzzles are necessarily easier.

The range includes different challenges, from puzzles suited to those beginning their REVOMAZE journey to more demanding designs for experienced solvers.

Continuing the REVOMAZE Journey

More than 17 years after the first REVOMAZE was created, the original idea remains at the heart of what we do.

A maze you cannot see, a challenge that rewards patience and precision, and the satisfaction of finally finding your way through.

While the Classics represent an important chapter in REVOMAZE history, Lite continues that journey for both new and experienced puzzlers.

Produced in small batches at The Puzzle Workshop, REVOMAZE Lite brings together the original hidden-maze concept with a more compact design and a choice of materials.

Whether you're discovering REVOMAZE for the first time or adding to an existing collection, there's always another maze waiting to be explored.
